![]() ![]() The extract can be disposed of locally or transported by barge or in a liquid suspension in pipelines. ĭredging is a four-part process: loosening the material, bringing the material to the surface (together extraction), transportation and disposal. Dredging can be done to recover materials of commercial value these may be high value minerals or sediments such as sand and gravel that are used by the construction industry. It keeps waterways and ports navigable, and assists coastal protection, land reclamation and coastal redevelopment, by gathering up bottom sediments and transporting it elsewhere. These environmental impacts can significantly hurt marine wildlife populations, contaminate sources of drinking water and interrupt economic activities such as fishing.ĭescription Excavator dredger in Neeme harbour, Estonia (April 2023)ĭredging is excavation carried out underwater or partially underwater, in shallow waters or ocean waters. Dredging systems can either be shore-based, brought to a location based on barges, or built into purpose built vessels.ĭredging has significant environmental impacts: it can disturb marine sediments, leading to both short- and long-term water pollution, destroy important seabed ecosystems, and can release legacy human-sourced toxins captured in the sediment. Usually the main objectives of dredging is to recover material of value or use, or to create a greater depth of water. In all but a few situations the excavation is undertaken by a specialist floating plant, known as a dredger. Possible reasons for dredging include improving existing water features reshaping land and water features to alter drainage, navigability, and commercial use constructing dams, dikes, and other controls for streams and shorelines and recovering valuable mineral deposits or marine life having commercial value. For the fishing boat, see fishing trawler.ĭredging is the excavation of material from a water environment. Very little middle ground."Dragger" redirects here. Perfectly blind, just the sound of the engine if it is laboring right. Listening to the guys that do the dredge at Storm lake, it sounds like that is tough feeding that thing. I think it would get real tiresome handling the hose to feed just the right amount of water and silt into the heavy hose. You can use one of these diaphragm pumps if you want. That would throw a lot of stuff in a hurry. There was a deal made that used air and venturi idea to suck water and mud out of concrete forms that got rained in before concrete gets poured. It kept clear for about 4 years and slowly silted in. Posted 15:03 (#5331969 - in reply to #5331838) Subject: RE: Small sand/mud dredge setup Isn't the hole going to be back full shortly? They will pump stuff that will hardly flow. ![]() I use them for pumping out grain elevator basements. I have a couple of the 3 inch diaphragm pumps. There will be a venturi in the suction line where the pump outlet attaches to create the suction. Pump will have a floating intake and suck just water. Lots of pumps for sale but some say trash or dredge but have a cast iron impeller. I was thinking of a 3" or 4" trash pump or dredge pump with some sort of high pressure nozzle to stir things up. I am clearing out material to make access from a river to the bank. I assume I need a chrome or hardened steel impeller and wear plate because of the sand and small gravel. I need to do some small scale sand and mud dredging. Posted 09:53 (#5331580) Subject: Small sand/mud dredge setup Small sand/mud dredge setup Jump to page : 1 Now viewing page 1 ![]()
